Council catching up on backlog of planning enforcement cases
A backlog of planning enforcement cases is about to be eradicated, district councillors have been told.
Warwick District Council's planning enforcement team has been prioritising unauthorised demolitions, tree works and works within conservation areas as it dealt with "a very high volume of cases".
Other alleged breaks of planning rules were treated as a lower priority.
But speaking at last week's full council meeting, portfolio holder for place, Cllr John Cooke said the planning team was close to catching up on the backlog.
"I am pleased to say that the backlog of enforcement cases has reduced from 275 - when it was at its worst - to 52 cases and will be eliminated before too long," he said.
"The level of enforcement action we are taking is also on the increase.
"Since last September six enforcement notices, two temporary stop notices and 10 planning contravention notices have been served, with another 13 cases with legal services."
