A Kenilworth charity is selling Christmas cards to help raise funds to support the preservation works at the abbey ruins in Abbey Fields.

The Harry Sunley Memorial Project (HSMP) has released its sixth annual Christmas card as it continues to fund renovations which could see the Augustinian abbey open to the public.

The project is partway through a project which has seen a mezzanine floor built in the Grade I listed gatehouse as well as shelving to display the many artefacts the group maintains.

HSMP, which was formed from the Kenilworth Abbey Advisory Committee in 2015, relies on donations from individuals and organisations to fund the restoration works at the abbey.

This year's Christmas card, which was designed by fundraising director Mervyn Kimberley, has been printed with the support of Emerson's Printers on Farmer Ward Road.

The card is being produced in a large portrait version, in packs of 10 for £10, and a smaller portrait edition, at £6.00 for a pack of 10.

Cards will be available from No 4 Barbers on Park Road, and Kenilworth Footcare at Oaks Precinct.

They can also be ordered directly from Mervyn Kimberley at [email protected], with the details of size, number required and a contact telephone number.

HSMP is also looking for more retailers to stock the cards - any interest can also be registered via Mervyn's email address.

Project fundraising director Mervyn Kimberley said: "If you enjoy living in an historic town such as Kenilworth, or even if you just enjoy old buildings, then please help us to add to that history, support our project and you could soon be standing inside our wonderful little gatehouse imagining yourself back in time."

Mervyn added: "The number of cards is limited, so it is essential that orders for cards are made as soon as possible - sales will be on a first come first served basis. Thank you for your support."

The card has been released just days after HSMP also announced a public fundraiser through direct donations and Amazon Smile.
