Plans to repair the gates at two canal locks in Lapworth have been approved.

The Canal & River Trust has been given the green light for the towns at locks 11 and 14 at Lapworth Lock Flight.

Works on the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal will see "like-for-like" repairs completed in November and December this year at the grade II listed site.

Lock gates need to be replaced alongside ladders, cills and timber beams.

The existing gates were installed between 2005 and 2010.

"It is therefore considered that the proposed works would not result in harm to significance," the application said.

"Any loss of historic fabric would be minimal and at the lower end of 'less than substantial harm'.

"This would be outweighed by public benefits, notably enabling the safe use of the lock, both at water and ground level on a well-used leisure route .

"The proposals would enable the continued and efficient operation of the lock and wider canal network, ensuring its optimum viable use.

"As part of ongoing maintenance, these works contribute to the sustainable management of these historic assets, allowing them to meet present-day operational requirements for a functioning leisure navigation."

Plans were signed off by Warwick District Council at the start of September.
