Birthing rooms at Warwick Hospital receive upgrade as part of £1million investment

Two birthing rooms at Warwick Hospital have received much-needed work to provide an improved private and homely birth setting for expectant Warwickshire mothers.

The project's aim was to transform the birthing rooms on Labour Ward, which were originally separated by a joining 'Jack and Jill' bathroom, to create two individual rooms with en-suite bathrooms.

The refurb also included renovating the rooms with softer colours, replacing old furnishings, and installing colour changing mood lighting to create a physical environment to promote health and wellbeing of women, their birth support partners and maternity staff.

The development, which was finished in April 2021 and took two months to complete, was funded by the Trust's 'Thanks a Million' campaign. For the campaign £1million was allocated to capital funding to improve and develop parts of South Warwickshire NHS' sites to enhance the surroundings for patients and staff.

To further improve the experience for local women and their families, we are planning future capital projects to refurbish Warwick Hospital's remaining four birthing rooms and to develop the Special Care Baby Unit.

Acting deputy head of midwifery, Lin Ward, said: "This is a really exciting development for maternity services at the Trust. Our midwife-led birthing unit, the Bluebell Birth Centre, is only three years old and therefore is still a very new development.

"Our Labour Ward, which is situated in the main hospital, is much older. This latest development is key to enabling our Trust to provide expectant mothers, who receive consultant-led care, the same modern and homely environment as the Bluebell Birth Centre.

"We look forward to welcoming future mothers and birthing their babies in the beautifully refurbished rooms."
