District planners have signed off on plans to continue using the car park in Talisman Square for another three years.

Cobalt Estates, which was first allowed to expand the site in 2012, said it needed to keep using the car park off Station Road while Warwick District Council considered its application to build a four-storey block of flats and two new shops on the site.

The application said there have been no previous issues with the use of the land for parking.

And while Kenilworth Town Council objected to the flats, it supported the use of the car park for the next three years.

Approving the application, a district council report said while the land is actually designated for shops, "the retained car park is preferential to the site being vacant until the approved retail units can be erected."

"The continued use of the car park for the temporary period is not considered to result in unacceptable harm and provides safe and convenient parking," it added.

"Therefore, this application should be granted."
