Council planners have refused planning permission for the back garden of a Kenilworth home to be turned into a dog daycare business.

'Kenilwoof Canine Castle' had submitted an application for the change of use at the house on Turton Way, with the scheme also including a "summerhouse style building" to house the dogs and a secondary gate to make it harder for the pets to escape.

The application said the dogs would only be on site for three-and-a-half hours per day, with the operating times - Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm - including pick up and drop off for the animals, and the dogs being taken off site for a countryside walk.

But planners at Warwick District Council sided with the objections of 18 residents who raised concerns about noise, and said the garden was an inappropriate location.

Refusing the application, a council report said: "From a noise perspective, this proposed use could lead to excessive barking due to stress, fear, anxiety, or simply wanting to play and interact with the other dogs.

"Given the close proximity of other residential dwellings and the relatively small outdoor space, it is not considered that a proposed dog daycare business will be appropriate in this location as it will lead to a loss of amenity for neighbouring dwellings due to noise."
