An appeal has been lodged after plans to create a new dog walking business in Lapworth were thrown out by council planners.

Mogz and Dogz saw its planning application for the green belt site at Swallowfield Stud refused in June following a flurry of objections from neighbours and the parish council.

The business would have run alongside the existing equestrian centre on site, and created a number of jobs.

The near 70 objections from locals raised concerns about the "unsustainable location", noise and said there would be no economic nor social benefit.

But Mogz and Dogz has now appealed to the planning inspectorate to get the decision overturned.

"The appellant's position is that all reasonable steps have been taken to ensure the proposed use would not have an unacceptable adverse impact on the amenity of nearby residents," the appeal said.

It added: "The proposed use would deliver on a local need for dog care facilities and allow the dog care business to operate from a permanent location.

"The proposed use would allow the business to secure the employment of five employees as well as investment in the site.

"The dog care and walking business would involve the re-use and refurbishment of three poorly maintained and vacant outbuildings associated with the existing equestrian business.

"This would facilitate the diversification of the offering provided at the existing rural business."

In its application, Mogz and Dogz said a number of the outbuildings would be converted for the dog care and walking business, and a fence would also be installed as part of the new set up.

The dogs would only have been able to use the 2.7 acre field between the hours of 9am till 2pm.

The existing car park and entrance to the site would have been used.

When Warwick District Council refused the application, it said the project was suitable for the green belt, but raised concerns about the impact on neighbours.

"Notwithstanding the above, officers consider that the applicant has failed to demonstrate that the proposal will not result in harm to the occupiers of the closest neighbouring dwellings," the report said.
