Plans to turn former Kenilworth landfill site into public open space 'getting there'
The town council says it is "getting there" on a project which could see a former landfill site into a public open space.
Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) revealed plans to bring land around Cherry Orchard into wider use last year, originally aiming to have the scheme come to fruition by the end of 2024.
However, with the space informally used by dog walkers still not available to the public, councillors said work on the site is progressing.
"We are talking to Warwickshire County Council country parks team about volunteering to support this site," Cllr James Kennedy said in an update at the most recent KTC meeting.
He added: "We are still waiting for the finalised management plan because WCC [Warwickshire County Council] still have to consult with WDC [Warwick District Council] before it can be finalised and published.
"It was September a year ago we started this process and it is taking some time, but we are getting there."
A report presented at the most recent KTC meeting also said the site is officially called Cherry Orchard Brickpit.
In 2009 the site was "not considered to be of a value that would be required for designation as a local wildlife site".
Next steps will see the town council also discussing rights of way, signage and fencing with the county council.
