An agreement to offer 40 affordable homes in Kenilworth has been confirmed for a new housing estate being built on Glasshouse Lane.

Housing association Platform has agreed a deal with Miller Homes to provide 24 homes for social rent, 10 for affordable rent and six for shared ownership at Southcrest Rise.

Work has already begun on the site with a small number of the affordable options being available in the next few months.

The site, which will have 99 homes built, is due to be fully finished by March 2025.

Kate Ellison, director of land, partnerships and business development said: "This agreement with our partners at Miller Homes means we are able to bring more affordable housing to the area and get more people a place they can call home.

"It's agreements like this that contribute to our ambition to keep building homes and delivering the housing requirements our local authority partners desperately need.

"I want to say thanks to the team at Miller Homes and our land team, and in the meantime, we'll continue to explore more ways we can work together with others to provide solutions to the housing crisis."

Darren Humphreys, managing director at Miller Homes West Midlands said: "We are delighted to work alongside Platform Housing Group to bring affordable new homes to Kenilworth.

"In this desirable location property prices can often be prohibitive so we are thrilled to be able to offer 40 of the 99 properties on our Southcrest Rise development as affordable homes.

"With many of our homes featuring solar panels, all properties are ultra energy-efficient which means residents will benefit from lower energy bills too. We look forward to welcoming the first residents to this brand new community very soon."

The memory of three Kenilworth locals who were sadly taken too young has been honoured with the naming of three streets at Miller's new estate.

The 'Oxford' style show home at Southcrest Rise was opened in May - with the kitchen used for the recent 'Great Kenilworth Bake Off' event.

Complete with a double garage, two en-suite bedrooms and an impressive kitchen with a central island, the show home shows off the high quality of homes on offer at the new development.

And as part of the development, Miller Homes will be contributing more than £2 million to the local area.

The money will be spent on education, transport and sporting facilities, with more than £980,000 to go towards early years, primary and secondary education and £176,721 set to go towards creating a new community centre.
