A train crashed into a tree thought to have been brought down by Storm Arwen just outside Kenilworth on Saturday.

The CrossCountry Voyager was en route from Birmingham New Street to Reading before it hit the tree yesterday evening.

Both passengers and the driver were unhurt but services were diverted away from Kenilworth and through Solihull for the rest of the day.

The train, which was then stopped at Coventry, had considerable damage to the front corner, and the windscreen was completely shattered.

The service has resumed as normal for today.

A statement by CrossCountry on Twitter said: "Our Voyager is looking a little worse for wear after having a battle with a tree at Kenilworth.

"Sorry if you're on board and we thank you for your patience.

"Services between Birmingham - Reading will divert via Solihull for the rest of the day."

CrossCountry has been contacted for comment.
