A Paralympian and an outdoor swimming expert are among the guest panelists invited to a public meeting to discuss the future of Kenilworth's lido.

Organised by the Kenilworth Lido Campaign Group, the meeting comes after planning permission was granted by Warwick District Council to demolish the lido and current indoor pool and build two new indoor pools.

The meeting, which will take place on Saturday 13 November at Abbey Hill United Reformed Church, will see panelists discuss the way forward for safe outdoor swimming in the district.

The meeting is titled 'COP OUT' as both a nod to COP26 currently underway in Glasgow and concerns within the lido group that the council's plans for Abbey Fields do not meet its carbon net zero targets.

Guest speakers at the meeting include local sustainable development champion George Martin, who will consider if the proposals for Abbey Fields align with WDC's ambitions to become a carbon neutral organisation by 2025.

Paralympian Gold Medallist swimmer Melanie Easter, speaker on outdoor swimming Kathleen Wootton and hopefully a panel of invited district councillors will also be in attendance.

There will be time to meet and talk with all of the speakers.

The campaign group has long since campaigned for a new outdoor swimming pool to continue the town's 125-year history of outdoor swimming.

A lido group spokesperson said: "Kenilworth could have a modern lido in Abbey Fields alongside an indoor pool but Warwick District Council plans to demolish the outdoor pool and build a second indoor pool.

"If you are interested in the future of safe outdoor swimming in Warwick district and the benefits it can bring, please do come along."

The meeting will be free to attend, but guests are invited to book their place on Ticket Source here.
