Meet Kenilworth's Labour candidates for May county council elections
Labour candidates will be contesting all three of the Kenilworth wards at the upcoming Warwickshire County Council Elections in May.
Jane Green, who is also standing in the Kenilworth Town Council by-election, will be the Labour Candidate for Kenilworth St John's.
Nick Hoten will contest Lapworth and Kenilworth West Ward, whilst Jeremy Eastaugh will represent Labour in Kenilworth Park Hill.
Kenilworth St John's
Jane Green will represent the Labour Party on May 6 for Kenilworth St John's Ward.
Ms Green, who has always lived in and around Kenilworth her whole life has said she wants to try to stop the proposed developments for Abbey Fields leisure centre which will "ruin the semi-rural character of our beautiful Abbey Fields" she says.
Ms Green also says she is committed to promoting a greener Warwickshire. "If elected I would prioritise increased recycling rates through community and business involvement.
"Transport is a major source of pollution so I have been exploring the possibility of Kenilworth having a community-run electric car and bike club, to share and hire out zero-emission vehicles; giving people the chance to try out electric transport and to cut down on private car use, with many benefits for all."
Lapworth and West Kenilworth
The Labour group has put forward Nick Hoten as its candidate for Lapworth and West Kenilworth Ward.
Chartered accountant Mr Hoten has lived in Kenilworth for 33 years, having lived in Leamington for a decade before that.
He has said: "The county council is planning an A46 link road from the A46 Stoneleigh junction to Westwood Heath Road.
"This major project is surely incompatible with Warwick District Council's aim to ensure that total carbon emissions in Warwick district are as close to zero as possible by 2030.
"We in the local Labour Party believe that the county council should suspend further development of the scheme until a full re-evaluation of the planning assumptions is made, including reassessment of traffic flow forecasts and a sustainability analysis.
"A vote for me on 6 May will be a vote for a county with a more sustainable future, run more effectively and with more support for those in need."
Kenilworth Park Hill
Jeremy Eastaugh is to stand in Kenilworth Park Hill Ward.
Mr Eastaugh has focused on the effect of major developments in southern Kenilworth.
"Today our roads are far from quiet," he says, "and very careful consideration needs to be given as to how extra volumes of local traffic are going to be managed; Glasshouse and Dalehouse Lanes will become busier and busier.
"Labour will work hard to improve air quality. I'd like to see significant investment in cycleways and safe, quiet pathways through the town and to the schools, secondary and primary."
Mr Eastaugh has also said that attention needs to be paid to supporting an ageing population in Kenilworth.
"There needs to be a far greater emphasis on Warwickshire's social care system as the local age demographic matures, we need fairer health outcomes for all."
Adding: "Council tax has increased by more than 30 per cent over the past 10 years whilst local services have seen a 43 per cent drop in funding."
