A development that will see 425 new houses built in Westwood Heath is running on schedule despite staff and material shortages reported across the UK.

BBC Breakfast reported in October that vacancies in the construction industry were up 40 per cent compared to before the pandemic, whilst tradesmen across the UK have reported price hikes as a result of material shortages.

Having received reports that the Westwood Heath Road project was paused due to shortages, Kenilworth Nub News contacted developers Crest Nicholson for comment.

But the Surrey-based builders confirmed that works were still on track to deliver the plans first approved in 2018.

A Crest Nicholson spokesperson said: "The programme for the development of Westwood Heath is currently on schedule and at this stage there are no delays to report."

As well as new houses the development will see a new convenience store and two access roads built.

Having received planning approval in 2018, houses on the former Greenbelt land are currently being advertised with Kenilworth-based estate agent Sheldon Bosley Knight.

House prices will start at £283,000.

As well as staff shortages across the UK, there have also been frequent reports of building material shortages.

In particular Scottish Business News reported earlier in November that almost 80 per cent of UK tradespeople have had to turn down jobs due to supply issues.
