Location: Clarendon Arms, 44 Castle Hill, Kenilworth, CV8 1NB
Date and Time: Tuesday 9th June 2026 at 10:00 for 10:30am
Speaker: Roger Wilson
Subject: Captain Eric Melrose "Winkle" Brown
"Winkle" Brown flew 487 different types of aircraft, from gliders to fighters, sea planes, helicopters, airliners and rocket powered aircraft.
He holds the world record for the most aircraft carrier deck take-offs and
landings performed (2,407 and 2,271 respectively) and achieved several "firsts" in naval aviation, including the first landings on an aircraft carrier of a twin-engined aircraft, an aircraft with a tricycle undercarriage, a jet aircraft, and a rotary-wing aircraft.
During World War II, he flew many types of captured German, Italian,
and Japanese aircraft, including new jet and rocket aircraft.
A true pioneer of jet technology into the postwar era.
Guests are welcome to join us for the talk and mingle afterward with members for a coffee, drink or even lunch as part of our social event.
