Kenilworth Sporting FC has announced this weekend that they will be investing in two new sides for the 2021-22 season; a reserves and a youth side.
This weekend's announcement comes as a further marker of progress for the club that was only reinstated for this season under their new owner Geoff Harris.
The announcement is also particularly timely as the first team's season was ended this week with the announcement that the Midland League Division Three would be abandoned.
Geoff has given the green light for a reserves side that will be entered into the Coventry Alliance Division Four. The reserves will be made up of players from the men's squad, as well as promising youngsters, and will play out of Coventry Sporting's home ground in Westwood Heath.
Also to be formed is a youth side for 16-18 year-olds, allowing the Gypsy Lane club to give an option to young players in the area to bridge the gap into adult football. They will play on Thursday nights in the Midland Floodlit League.
Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News, manager of Kenilworth Sporting Martin Ascroft said: "Its fantastic, absolutely fantastic. We had a really positive meeting with Geoff and he is clear in how he wants to take the club forward.
"A youth side is your bread and butter moving forward, and the reserves will serve its purpose in helping young players also getting into men's football.
"I cannot fault Geoff's enthusiasm and his love of the game, it is absolutely fantastic."
Talking about the expansion and development of the club in such a short time Martin added: "From where we started we had five players turn up to the first training session, but 23 at the last one, eight games into the season.
"It is staggering the progress we have made in such a short period of time."
Sporting are expected to announce a youth team manger in the next few weeks, in time for a side to be put together for preseason.
