Kenilworth Sporting's manager Martin Ascroft has said he is "looking forward to the challenge" of the new season, but remains "very cautious" as his side start their first Midland Football League Division Two game this Saturday.

Sporting will host fellow newly promoted side Inkberrow, whom they finished just three points ahead of when the season was abandoned in November.

Yet to have a full season together, Kenilworth Sporting will face some tough opposition this year as they look to cement their place in the division.

Ascroft is well aware of the challenges that his side face.

Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News he said: "I am feeling excited but very cautious about the new season. There are some very good, established teams in division two. We will need our new signings to hit the ground running because a decent start is always good for confidence."

Kenilworth finished top of division three at the end of the curtailed season, having lost just once in eight outings. As they look to test themselves in a higher league, Ascroft has already said he is pleased to have four of his opening five games at home at Gypsy Lane.

Against Inkberrow Sporting will be looking for the perfect start to the season over a side which they didn't actually face last time around.

"Meeting Inkberrow in our first game is good for both teams after we were both promoted from div three last season," says Ascroft. "I'm

sure Inkberrow are happy meeting us in their opening game knowing we were only three points ahead when the season came to a close."

Looking to what the season could bring Ascroft has not made any big statements, instead taking a measured approach to expectations.

"We are a very ambitious club and of course we would love to be in the mix come the end of the season. I'm realistic about our expectations and so is our owner.

"We will look forward to the challenge ahead and will take it each game at a time."

Head down to Gypsy Lane this Saturday (August 7) to cheer on Kenilworth Sporting against Inkberrow for a 3pm kick off. Tickets cost just £3 for adults.

Kenilworth Nub News will bring you the full time result.
