Dear Sir,

I'm the elderly lady who was trapped in the lift.

It was very distressing for me at 84 years old; fortunately I'm fairly fit for my age.

If it had been a disabled person it could have been a different story.

I pressed the emergency button but it did not work.

Fortunately I had my mobile phone and rang the emergency services who sent the firebrigade to my assistance.

I found the whole situation very very distressing, it was over an hour I was stuck and had to stand the whole time.

Also knowing I have a disabled husband at home and I was concerned for him being left for so long.

The fire brigade struggled to get it open due to the vandalism and had to resort to ringing the railway company to get permission to break open the control box to manually get me down.

I know there were schoolchildren hanging around and were giggling as they exited the lift.

The lift has been often been out of order due to vandalism and this needs to be addressed, the problem is that the CCTV doesn't appear to work and the station is unmanned.

Surely this shows that some type of surveillance needs to be put in place urgently.
