Elderly lady gets trapped in lift at Kenilworth Railway Station
By James Smith 26th May 2026
A councillor has raised safety concerns after an elderly woman was trapped in the lift at Kenilworth Railway Station and had to be rescued by firefighters.
The incident last month saw the woman - who has not been named - trapped in the lift for an hour before she was rescued.
As well as the lift stopping, the emergency phone inside it would not work but she was able to call 999 with her mobile phone before being rescued by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The incident comes as the lift was also reported not working last Sunday (May 17).
"This was obviously a distressing experience for the resident and costly for the fire service," Liberal Democrat councillor Richard Dickson told Nub News.
"To compound the problem, CCTV footage from West Midlands Railway to establish the cause of the problem is proving very problematic.
"The lift is a vital part of the station's service to residents, so I'm pushing to get this fixed and appropriate action taken against any identifiable vandals."
WMR said there was no "clear cause" for the lift stopping with the lady inside it.
The operator said the issue was resolved on the day and it is "not aware of any further issues".
