Works on Kenilworth's new swimming pools still months ahead of schedule

Works on the new Abbey Fields swimming pools remain months ahead of schedule, a report presented to Kenilworth Town Council has revealed.
Developer Kier had already revealed the works in the town centre park were running 12 weeks ahead of time and an updated report published last week said further progress had been made and now the works are 14 weeks ahead.
The report said the current provisional completion date is 1 April 2026.
Work on site in Abbey Fields resumed again in March 2024 after construction had ceased following the discovery of archaeological remains in 2022.
The construction was not expected to be complete until the summer next year.
The report from Warwick District Council to the town council provides an update on the works completed and currently underway.
Trial trench works for the main water supply pipe were due to be carried out by Severn Trent at the start of June.
The works for the installation of the gas main supply pipe, will follow the works that Severn Trent are carrying out, as the same route will be followed.
"The equipment for the substation has now been made and works will now commence on the excavation of the substation, now that the hoarding has been extended," the report said.
Amended planning permission for the project was secured at the end of 2023, with some small changes to the design approved.
A new £22 million price for the Abbey Fields Leisure Centre project was agreed - a huge step up from the £8.5 million predicted in September 2021, and the £12.5 million contract signed the following year.
Before the major delays to the project, it had been predicted the new swimming pools would open in December 2022.
