Works on the new Abbey Fields swimming pools are three months ahead of schedule, according to a report presented to Kenilworth Town Council.

The regular update said the project could now be completed in mid-April 2026, some 12 weeks ahead of schedule.

Work on site in Abbey Fields resumed again in March 2024 after construction had ceased following the discovery of archaeological remains in 2022.

The construction - which is being managed by Kier - was not expected to be complete until the summer next year.

The report from Warwick District Council to the town council provides an update on the works completed and currently underway.

Issues with the mains water supply on site persist, but are expected to be finished in July.

The junior play area is now closed on weekdays, and will be for at least two months as steelwork construction gets underway.

Work on the substation is due to start soon, in the other play area, but this is not expected to close during the works.

Amended planning permission for the project was secured at the end of 2023, with some small changes to the design approved.

A new £22 million price for the Abbey Fields Leisure Centre project was agreed - a huge step up from the £8.5 million predicted in September 2021, and the £12.5 million contract signed the following year.

Before the major delays to the project, it had been predicted the new swimming pools would open in December 2022.
