Nearly 50 objections have been submitted to plans for 100 new homes in Burton Green.

IM Land has applied for planning permission for the new estate right behind an existing row of homes,

If approved by Warwick District Council, the development would be built on green belt land, and half would be designated 'affordable homes'.

But locals have said Burton Green cannot handle any more homes.

Chris Langton wrote: "There is absolutely no need for more housing in Burton Green.

"With already constructed and approved new housing the housing stock will have almost doubled in five years - and this does not take account of the adjacent new housing currently being constructed on Cromwell Lane in Coventry.

"This proposal would destroy a green belt buffer between existing historic housing along Cromwell Lane and the new developments taking place along Westwood Heath Road at Westwood Park."

Mary Webb also objected, saying: "In recent years Burton Green has grown enormously, with huge developments in Westwood Heath Road and at the top of Red Land, an enclave of mobile homes in Red Lane, a proposed 30+ bungalow estate in Cromwell Lane, several battery farms and HS2.

"All this in the past 10 years.

"The village which was very cohesive is now beginning to fragment as its residents are weary of so much change."

Meanwhile Adrian Smith said: "When will this nightmare stop, traffic has been hell with every housing estate that goes up, surveys on traffic are based on non normal days, Sundays or when diversions are in place meaning lower that normal traffic levels, eating into every piece of countryside you can, seeing less and less wildlife as you destroy habitats."

He added: "The village has grown beyond comprehension and has probably the highest levels of traffic management requests on the surrounding areas than any other location in the city.

"Go build houses around the locations of the planners who approve these schemes."

The application includes 'public open space' as well as a play area and community garden.

In its application, IM Land has argued the land is in fact grey belt, and therefore the plans should be approved.

The developer has also pointed to the fact the council is unable to demonstrate a five-year housing supply.

As well as the existing houses on Cromwell Lane, the development would also border the major new estate being built off Westwood Heath Road.

"Land east of Cromwell Lane, Burton Green, provides an opportunity to create a vibrant, sustainable and well connected new community on the north-western edge of Burton Green," the application said.

"The proposals are set within an attractive landscape setting which incorporates and enhances existing green infrastructure whilst also providing improved accessibility to the wider area for new and existing residents."
