West Midlands Railway (WMR) has today (April 6) confirmed train services between Nuneaton and Leamington Spa - the line which serves Kenilworth Railway Station - will resume later this month.

A bus service has been operating between the towns during the latest period of lockdown due to the impact of Covid-19 on train crew availability.

However, with the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions now under way, train services will resume on the route from Monday 26 April, allowing passenger service for Kenilworth once again.

Initially one train will run every two hours, with rail replacement buses continuing to supplement the service. WMR has said it remains committed to reinstating the full timetable when possible.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Railway, said: "With lockdown measures beginning to ease further, now is the right time to reinstate a train service between Nuneaton and Leamington Spa.

"It was the direct impact of the pandemic on our train crew – both through sickness and lost driver training days – which left us no choice but to temporarily withdraw the service.

"I would like to thank our passengers and the local community for their patience and understanding while we have been working hard to bring trains back to the line."

Timetables will be available to view on on the WMR website in due course.
