Wave of objections to plans for 70 new homes in Leek Wootton

Over 100 objections have been submitted to detailed plans for 70 new homes in Leek Wootton.
Having already won its planning appeal to develop around Warwickshire Police's headquarters, developer Cala Homes has now put forward a reserved matters application for the site.
If approved, the estate off Woodcote Lane would see a mix of one to five-bed homes built, 40 per cent of which will be affordable.
And while the latest application for the village is for fewer homes than initially approved, it has drawn a wave of objections from local councillors and residents.
Cllr Jim Kirkwood wrote: "Whilst the proposed reduction in house numbers and the confirmation that the maximum building height will be two storeys only is very welcome, this application dealing with reserved matters currently fails to provide sufficient protection to the community in regard to tree protection and parking provisions and should be rejected for these reasons."
Gabriella Duggan added: "There are major problems with the traffic.
"The council officers and highways will be potentially responsible for accidents and even deaths due to their lack of thought for pedestrians.
"I walk to school along Woodcote drive and Lane and am petrified even time I try and cross the road by the pub, this will make even more kids scared to walk to school."
And Martin Morris said: "This application still proposes too many properties for the size and nature of this village.
"Not enough parking has been allocated within the development - it is a requirement that 20% unallocated spaces should be provided, this has not been done.
"There are already many problems with cars and sometimes much larger vehicles parking on Woodcote Lane, this will only get worse.
"The development has not been designed or planned in a way that would compliment or enhance the village in any way whatsoever, the style of properties are unattractive, excessive in size and number, and not the type of property that the village requires."
In its application Cala said its plans respond "to local needs and circumstances".
And the developer said it had listen to locals and not included the full 83 homes it had originally been given outline permission for.
"This responds positively to comments received to the outline application by providing a scheme tailored to local circumstances, including the existing character and needs of the village," the application explained.
However, the scheme has also been met with an objection from Leek Wootton and Guy's Cliffe Parish Council.
While councillors were pleased about the reduced number of homes, they still raised concerns about parking and landscaping.
Last year residents raised thousands of pounds in an attempt to block the planning appeal.
The developer purchased the plot from the police force in December 2021.
