Warwickshire's rare white wallaby has been caught on film by a dog handler from the Warwickshire Rural Crime Team.

The officer spotted the wallaby - affectionately named Colin by residents - whilst out on patrol.

A police spokesperson said: "Colin the White Wallaby was spotted by a Warwickshire Police dog handler last night while out patrolling the area.

"We don't know at the moment if Collin is by him/herself or part of a larger Mob.

"Colin might look friendly, but please don't try and approach him if spotted, it's best to watch from afar."

The wallaby was also spotted on Rouncil Lane last week, by 13 year old Harriet Billyeald on her way to school.

'Colin' was first spotted in south Warwickshire last October, but sightings have become more regular in 2022.

And some residents are suggesting there might be more than one wallaby on the loose in the area.

The RSPCA said it was likely the wallaby had escaped from a private collection.

"Most people may be unaware that wallabies are considered established in the wild in Britain, as a result of escaping from captivity, although they are not a native species to the UK," a spokesperson said.

"Our advice to people who spot a wallaby in the wild is to watch from afar and don't try to approach them."
