A Kenilworth dog owner has been criticised for allowing their pet to chase a swan in Abbey Fields lake.

A video shared with Nub News shows the dog barking and swimming after one of the park's swans on Sunday 26 May.

The owners can be heard faintly in the background trying to call the dog back - but without success.

The video shows the dog's barking also scares off some of the ducks in the lake.

Onlookers told Nub News the owner tried shouting for 15 minutes before wading in to retrieve their pet.

They also said the dog chased the swan's cygnets.

"Really upset to see this today in Abbey Fields in Kenilworth," one local said.

"This must have gone on for about 15 minutes until the owner finally gave up the infective shouting and waded in."

They added: "The swan appeared to be leading the dog away from their nest.

The owner was also reportedly "not at all happy" when challenged by another dog owner.

Warwick District Council - which manages Abbey Fields - says "dogs must be under control" at all times in the park.

No animals are thought to have been hurt.
