Warwickshire Police 'best performing force' for rape charges

Warwickshire Police is the best performing force for adult rape charge rates, it has announced.
The force has charges nearly double the national average rate, and says it wants to improve this further.
Superintendent Martyn Kendall, who helped to oversee the changes in its response, said: "No-one should have to experience the horror of rape.
"Our officers and detectives have been working hard to achieve better outcomes for victims, and this charge rate shows that our efforts are starting to bring about positive change.
"Rape has historically been a very difficult crime to secure a conviction for, which is why we see this as an important milestone and a sign that we are on the right tracks as we continue to work towards securing justice for every single victim.
"We know that there is still work to be done, and we will continue to strive to get better."
Warwickshire Police's current charge rate is 13.4 per cent, in comparison to the national average of 7.1 per cent.
The force said it has made a number of changes including starting a team of detectives to focus only on rape and high-risk domestic abuse, having a team of specially trained officers ready to respond to reports, having a 'victim-centred' approach and getting the Crown Prosecution Service involved early on in investigations.
