Warwickshire Giving Tree (formerly Kenilworth Giving Tree) is returning for its third year, working with Warwickshire Young Carers to give 40 young people a special Christmas gift in recognition of all their hard work.

Warwickshire Young Carers is an organisation working with young carers from the age of six upwards, helping to make a difference to their lives by encouraging them to take time out to relax, take a break and to realise their own dreams.

The Giving Tree was the brainchild of Laura Crawley, who had seen the project in a different part of the country and decided to set up something similar here in Warwickshire.

Laura said: "What started out as a dream of giving Christmas presents to ten children has now grown to the extent that we are now hoping to gift to 40 children.

"Warwickshire Young Carers have already seen 50 new referrals in the last 12 months and that is solely in the Kenilworth and surrounding area.

"This is a great opportunity for people to bring a smile to a child's face, as a reward for their hard work and shouldering of responsibility throughout the year.

"We have had to have a minor re-brand to include Warwickshire recognising the county-wide need that there now is!"

Laura is being supported this year by Leamington Soroptimists.

President, Catherine Williamson said: "We are so proud to be supporting Laura this year behind the scenes with the admin, as the project has grown year on year and will continue to do so. The need is there and it is such a deserving cause."

Three local venues will hosting a Giving Tree this December:

  • Forrest Café, The Square, Kenilworth – from Friday 25 November
  • Esquires Coffee, Warwick Street, Leamington Spa – from Friday 1 December
  • 1, Mill Street, Leamington Spa – from Friday 1 December

How it works:

  1. Collect a tag from the Giving Tree – it will give you the age and gender of the young person you are buying for and what is on their Christmas list. Click on the QR code on the tag and see the gift suggestions.
  2. Purchase a relevant gift and return it unwrapped but in a gift bag, to your host venue.
  3. Organisers and Warwickshire Young Carers will do the rest to ensure Father Christmas really does deliver to our young friends.

If you are time-poor and will have difficulty purchasing a gift, please click on the QR code below to donate to Warwickshire Young Carers.

Monies raised go towards continuing the work the charity does in bringing activities, support and advice to young carers.
