Warwickshire motorists are handed the most expensive driving fines in the UK according to new research.

On average drivers in Kenilworth and the rest of the county pay £467 per fine, followed by nearby Northamptonshire at £428.

The data, released by Wessex Fleet, shows that Warwickshire offenders are paying almost £200 more than those in Norfolk who pay the least (£271).

Wessex Fleet's research used a mixture of FOI requests to local police forces, and government and DVLA data.

The company said average fines for motorists had increased by £58 since 2015.

Kenilworth Nub News also reported in February that two in five speeding offences went unpunished in Warwickshire last year.

Of the 34,132 speeding offences in the county, 13,239 (39 per cent) were cancelled - the highest proportion of anywhere in the country.

And of those dealt with, only 24 per cent actually received fixed penalty notices
