Take a trip back in time to 'A Grand Medieval Day Out' this Bank Holiday weekend where historical characters will come together for the English Heritage event from 30 April to 1 May.

Visitors to the 900-year-old castle will be transported back to Kenilworth's medieval prime with re-enactors and musical performances throughout the grounds.

The year is 1173, King Henry II is abroad fighting his rebellious sons and an ambitious King of France.

Back home, his officers are trying to keep the peace, but Geoffrey de Clinton refuses to give up his castle of Kenilworth.

Discover a castle besieged and watch as rival knights clash in battle.

Throughout the day explore the bustling camp where you can meet tradespeople, the knights on campaign and the families supporting them.

See traditional crafts in action including the blacksmith, woodworkers and weavers.

Take your chance to seek advice from the herbalist for all your aliments or visit the cook's tent to see what it took to feed an army! Listen to the sounds of the past with our medieval musicians Calibans Dream and the castle jester is on hand to bring some laughter to the day!

English Heritage events manager Ella Harrison comments: "A Grand Medieval Day Out' promises to be a spectacular event.

"In the 13th century Kenilworth Castle was one of the country's greatest fortresses, and the site of some truly historic sieges and battles. Over the bank holiday we'll be transporting visitors back to this medieval heyday. It looks set to be an unforgettable day out."

Alongside the action of the event visitors will be able to explore the castle's impressive ruins – from conquering the medieval castle keep to climbing to the top of the tower built to woo Queen Elizabeth I.

With live action shows, a cast of colourful characters to meet, and an awe-inspiring castle to discover it promises to be a truly historic day out the whole family will enjoy.
