Time running out to have your say on local strip clubs and sex shops
By James Smith 25th May 2026
Residents have just days left to give their say on the district council's 'sexual entertainment establishment' policy.
Earlier this spring, Warwick District Council launched a public consultation on changes to the policy which was last updated in March 2021.
Locals have until June 10 to respond.
A previous survey of local views in 2014 found residents wanted no sexual entertainment venues in any of the town centres.
At present there is only one such venue in the district: Shades Gentleman's Club on Wise Street, Leamington. Its licence will not be impacted by the consultation.
"We are reviewing our sexual entertainment venue policy and are seeking feedback from the public," the local authority said.
"The consultation provides an opportunity for anyone with an interest to comment on the proposed policy and help inform the council's decision‑making.
"There are no changes to the intent or direction of the policy, which sets out how the council seeks to regulate sexual entertainment establishments under its control and provides a framework for consistent decision making."
While no major changes are proposed to the policy, Warwick District Council said it needs to make sure its guidance for sex shops, sex cinemas and sexual entertainment venues is up to date.
However, there could be a large number of tweaks made to the way objections are handled, how the policy is enforced and conditions on licences.
