An emergency protest has been called over the Reform-led council's plan to ban LGBTQ+ displays and books from Warwickshire's libraries.

The protest is set to take place tomorrow (1 July ) at 1.15pm outside Shire Hall in Warwick.

Although the protest is not organised by Warwickshire Pride, the group is supporting it and has have given permission for the Warwickshire Pride name and logo to be used on the poster.

Chair of Warwickshire Pride Dan Browne shared: "The protest is a vital action against the Reform administration's continued attacks on LGBTQ+ communities. As someone who lived through Section 28 in the 1980s and 1990s, I'm very aware of the lasting negative impact it's had on LGBTQ+ people. This is an attempt by Reform at Warwickshire County Council to bring in its own form of Section 28, this time using rehashed arguments that were previously applied to gay people that now get applied to trans people, and fear mongering by trying to say that this is somehow about protecting children.

"Children indeed do need to be protected, but from Reform and their political ideologies rather than LGBTQ+ displays and books. Libraries must remain inclusive places of learning and free from this type of dangerous political interference.

"This is clearly about pushing an anti-LGBTQ+ agenda. It has no place in Warwickshire or indeed anywhere in the world. Warwickshire Pride will continue to oppose what is being done, continue exposing what the Reform administration is doing, and continue standing up for LGBTQ+ communities in Warwickshire."

Nub News has contacted Warwickshire County Council for comment and is awaiting response.

The protest is on 1st July (tomorrow), not 30th June (today). The council meeting is at 2 pm, and the council's plan will be discussed on item 4.
