Photographs sent to Nub News show a terrapin spotted in Abbey Fields lake last week.

The reptile was spotted in the town centre park on Thursday morning (20 August) by Abby Osborne-Davis.

It comes as the water levels in the lake remain very low following weeks of hot weather and no rain.

Warwick District Council says it is monitoring the water levels in Abbey Fields and the health of the wildlife.

"Our green spaces team has met with Cyril Bennis from Swan Rescue and some local residents to assess the situation at the lake," the council said.

"The swans and cygnets are currently looking healthy.

"As long as they stay hydrated, there are no concerns. If the lake completely dries up, then they have the option of the brook nearby which is accessible to them.

"The council asks that dogs are kept under control around the lake, as the lower water levels mean the lake is more easily accessible and this increases the possibility of wildlife being attacked.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and if necessary, we can relocate the cygnets with the adult swans."
