A local hotel has won its bid to keep its outside patio areas which were built without planning permission.

Warwick District Council has approved a retrospective application for the works at The Riverside Hotel on Leamington Road.

Built last year, the paved areas would have needed to be ripped up if the council had rejected the plans.

"The proposed hardstanding comprises paving slabs that are of a good quality design and the officers site visit confirmed the development was of an acceptable design and the scale of the development was also considered acceptable," a council report said.

The application said: "These spaces have been carefully designed to create high quality, functional, and visually appealing environments that significantly enhance the overall guest experience.

"The paved areas provide well defined zones for outdoor seating, informal gathering, and circulation, allowing guests to comfortably enjoy the hotel's external amenities throughout the year."

"The proposed patio area represents a modest, low-impact extension of the existing hotel's facilities, providing improved outdoor amenity for guests," the application continued.

"The works comprise high-quality hard surfacing without enclosing structures, and as such, the proposal does not constitute a disproportionate addition to the existing development."
