Kenilworth and Leamington locals may have to wait another three and a half years until the much-delayed K2L cycleway is completed.

Speaking at the most recent Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Andrew Milton revealed the 5km link is now hoped to be finished in December 2027.

While construction of the very first part of the scheme - along the A452 in Leamington - is now complete, there is still a huge amount of work to be done.

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) approved the near £5 million budget for K2L in 2020 before giving full approval for the cycleway in January 2021.

Cllr Izzi Seccombe had previously said the project may take four to five years. But with continued slow progress on the scheme, Cllr Milton said he was not holding his breathe about the December 2027 target.

"Now that seems a long way off, I will reserve judgement until about November 2027 as to whether that is the case," he told the town council.

"But we do at least have a date.

"And the meeting we had with them [WCC] was in April, and I have to say the new project manager seemed quite impressive and on it and with some energy too.

"Hopefully we will start to see some movement so it actually gets to Kenilworth."

WCC still needs to finish the designs for much of the route, including the complicated crossing of over the River Avon near Chesford Grange.
