A new "luxurious" Turkish and Mediterranean grill, offering freshly cooked traditional food is opening in Kenilworth this week.

Mavi will welcome diners for the first time on Wednesday 2 April after months of work renovating the former Indian Ark restaurant.

The Warwick Road eatery has been completely transformed into a contemporary dining space, with a diverse menu bringing a range of Turkish cuisine to town.

Owner Kabir Islam told Nub News: "We're giving the traditional Turkish feel and you have got the Mediterranean food as well.

"We selected a range of traditional dishes, and the ambience, the lighting, the décor, I think it goes with the food as well.

"Everything here is freshly made to order, nothing is reheated.

"And we do not cook on gas, it is all charcoal and that really impacts the flavour."

Mavi - which translates as 'blue' from Turkish - builds on the success of its sister restaurant 'Meze' in Cannock.

Packed with Turkish classics including moussaka, Pide (Turkish Pizza), shish and with Mediterranean mezze and fish, the new menu offers something for everyone.

"Our menu is exactly the same as what we have in Cannock," Kabir continued.

"And we have copied what we have done there with the interior, which looks really nice.

"The local reaction has already been fantastic.

"People have already told us they can't wait for us to open, so it's good feedback at the moment.

"We already have bookings for Wednesday night and I'm encouraging people to come and try it - when you do, you're going to enjoy it for sure."

Kabir - who has worked in hospitality for 30 years - has also previously run an Indian restaurant in Wolverhampton and says Mavi will bring both excellent food, and great service.

Kabir said he is really excited to welcome guests for the first time (image supplied)

"Hospitality is so different," he said.

"Because you get to see so many different kinds of people.

"And the enjoyment you have when you give that kind of service and you get a little smile from the person, it feels good, though, doesn't it?

"You work so hard to get the place right, and now we can't wait for the feedback.

"When you walk inside the restaurant, we say 'wow' because it's already a nice atmosphere.

"I think when the people do come in, they will enjoy it. Our food we know is great, and the service will be too."
