Since 1891, Dogs Trust has been working for a better future for dogs and the people who love them.

When a dog is in distress, it cares for them. When a dog needs a home, it finds them a loving family. When an owner needs a helping hand, it's ready to step in.

At Kenilworth, it is doing a summer of events to help the rehoming centre connect with the local community, specifically around the types of dogs it is looking to rehome, or the kind of owners the charity is looking for (For example: Big Dogs, Greyhounds and Lurchers, or Golden Oldies).

These free events, which will highlight the different types and breeds of dogs available at the rehoming centre, as well as providing information to new or prospective dog owners, come at a time when across the country, Dogs Trust is busier than ever. Last year, the Dogs Trust Kenilworth found homes for 762 dogs, and is hoping to find homes for even more this year.

As part of its drive to find forever homes for the dogs in its care, Dogs Trust Kenilworth has planned 11 events to help potential owners across Warwickshire and the West Midlands meet the 'dog of their dreams'.

These events are designed to give people the chance to meet some of the dogs in the charity's care and to go "behind the scenes" at the rehoming centre.

There will be talks by members of staff, and visitors will be able to chat to the team responsible for finding new homes for the 61 dogs currently searching for their forever homes.

There are currently six events left to attend this summer:-

  • Golden Oldies - Wednesday 24 July, 12pm – 7:30pm
  • Foster Dog Day - Wednesday 31 July, 12pm – 7:30pm
  • Lonely Hounds - Wednesday 7 August, 12pm – 7:30pm
  • Meet our Shepherds - Wednesday 14 August, 12pm – 7:30pm
  • What does Dogs Trust do? - Wednesday 21 August, 12pm – 7:30pm
  • Flying Solo - Wednesday 28 August, 12pm – 7:30pm

The events are aimed at encouraging potential adopters to visit the centre to learn more about adopting a dog. The Dogs Trust is hoping that by talking with a member of its friendly team it will help prospective owners work out if dog ownership is for them, and potentially find the 'paw-fect match'.

Scarlett Brophy, from the Dogs Trust, told Nub News about the joy the events bring and what they involve.

She said: "The Underdog event was the one I was most looking forward to.

"Our Underdogs spend the most amount of time with us and they're usually the ones we form relationships with so we can all talk about how much we love them for hours!

"I have a soft spot for a Golden Oldie, so I think I'm excited to tell everyone how wonderful an older dog can be!

"We have a range of events coming up showcasing lots of different dogs in our care including our golden oldies, flying solo (dogs looking for homes as the only pet) and our lonely hounds event, focusing on dogs that struggle being left on their own."

Dogs Trust's main purpose is wanting to see all dogs living full, safe and happy lives. It aims to build a better future for dogs and the people who love them.
