A set of stables in Stoneleigh could be demolished to make way for 20 new homes, if plans are signed off by the district council.

Amare Estates Limited has applied for planning permission for the development off Stoneleigh Road, which would be next to a massive development of 2,500 houses and a new primary school which has already received planning permission.

If approved, the scheme would see six, two-bed and two, three-bed affordable homes built. The rest would be a mix of three, four and five-bed market properties.

"The amount of development proposed is appropriate to the local context," the application said.

"Development of the site would be in keeping with the residential character of the area, would not be harmful to the character and appearance of the local area, and would be in keeping with the aspirations of the wider allocation."

It added: "The benefits are considered to be significant, with no harm identified, therefore the presumption in favour of sustainable development applies and this development should be approved without delay since the proposals accord with the development plan."
