Waverley Day Centre celebrates small charity week
By James Smith 22nd Jun 2026
Waverley Day Centre operates as a charity (Kenilworth Community Care) and is a small charity which aims to make a big impact in supporting in preventing social isolation for older people in Kenilworth and the surrounding are.
The day centre offers an opportunity for older people to come together and have a home cooked two-course meal and engage in activities to stimulate the mind and the body. On top of this, the day centre provides an opportunity to build friendships and make connections with like- minded older people.
A charity like Waverley charity requires strong stewardship, and Waverley is looking to build on its trustee board by ensuring it has all the skills required to oversee the charity.
The current board is made up of a small, effective team of committed individuals who not only oversee the charity but get involved in fundraising and community activities to promote the aims of the charity and raise valuable funds to ensure the clients have engaging and enjoyable activities and events to enjoy.
Recently a group of trustees and supporters raised over £600 at the Kenilworth Lions Show running a tombola and luck dip stand.

Would you like to become a Trustee at Waverley?
No formal experience is required, just an interest in the local community and a desire to directly support the older people in the town and the surrounding area.
Two of the current Trustees – Sue LaVerne and Gemma Haynes - have had family members who have attended Waverley so have seen first-hand the crucial service the day centre provides for the town and are volunteering as a trustee as a way of "paying it forward".
Sue, Chair of the Trustee Board, said: "My mum, who lived in Kenilworth attended the day centre and had a wonderful time.
"She particularly enjoyed the home cooked lunch and activities like indoor bowls and seated exercise.
"I have been a trustee at Waverley for three years and enjoy the opportunity to work with my fellow trustees and give something back to the charity which gave so much to my mum".

Gemma, treasurer, said "Both my mother-in-law and father-in-law lived in Kenilworth and benefitted from attending Waverley and it made a real difference to their lives.
"I have volunteered as treasurer for the last two years and feel privileged to give back to a cause which I care so much about".
Waverley would particularly welcome interest from local people who are curious about what the charity does and want to support older people in the town.
It is also keen to talk to potential trustees who have experienced Waverley with a family member either currently or previously attending the day centre.
Waverley is looking for Trustees with the following skills:
- Marketing and/ or social media skills
- Experience of being a Trustee and an interest in charity governance
- A strong and active network in Kenilworth
