Waverley - the centre in Kenilworth which works for the community - has received a Grant through Warwickshire County Council to purchase a range of IT equipment to enrich the day to day needs of local clients that attend each day.

During the second round of councillor Grants, Cllr Rik Spencer approved a grant which will pay for a laptop, projector, screen, software and speakers.

Also, it will allow Waverley to offer up to date audio visual equipment to local organisations when hiring its meeting rooms.

The new equipment will give Waverley the ability to provide weekly and special seasonal entertainment events including quizzes, bingo and karaoke, which in the past has not been possible.

It will also facilitate I.T. information technology training as well as one to one technical support should clients require it.

Waverley manager Anne Cross said: "This is a fantastic benefit to receive.

"It will help us in our aim to reduce loneliness and isolation by providing 'lively and fun' activities for our clients in Kenilworth and surrounding areas.

"We will also be able to help people understand and use modern technology on a one-to-one basis.

"We are extremely grateful for the support that Waverley has received from Cllr Rik Spencer."

Originally launched as a lunch club in the 1980's, the centre on Waverley Road is now a not-for-profit charity tackling social isolation in the town and across South Warwickshire.

Waverley is a place where the elderly can come and relax, socialise with others, and even take part in a range of stimulating activities.

Open from mid-morning to 3.30pm Tuesday to Friday, the centre offers guests a warm welcome and an alternative for those who may otherwise be forced to stay at home alone for most of the week.

Cllr Rik Spencer added: "I am privileged as a councillor to support the work that Waverley is providing to the community, it brings support for those people that might not have any other social engagement and it provides a fun and engaging meeting point for people.

"This grant will support Waverley in extending their activities to enhance the mental health of clients.

"It will also provide their meeting rooms with additional equipment where local businesses can provide meaningful visual elements to their meetings and presentations.

"Kenilworth Town Mayor, Alan Chambers, has chosen Waverley as his mayoral charity this year and I do not believe this should have gone to any other charity other than Waverley, as the ethos and the support they provide the community is second to none."
