Covent Garden Quarter Market cancelled as strong winds predicted
The Covent Garden Quarter Market due to take place in Leamington Spa on Sunday (January 26) has been cancelled as 46mph winds are forecast.
Operator CJ's Events Warwickshire said it believed the decision is "the best interest of everyone's safety".
A statement from the company said: "Due to the arrival of another weather system overnight, we regret to announce that tomorrow's Covent Garden Quarter Market has been cancelled.
"The forecast predicts gusts of up to 46mph from midday, along with a yellow weather warning for heavy rain.
"Our decisions are always made with the utmost care and consideration for the safety of our team, traders, visitors, and the wider community. After exploring all possible options, it is clear that safety must remain our top priority.
"Market stalls, gazebos, and traders' products are not designed to withstand such severe weather conditions. High wind speeds can make these structures unstable, posing significant risks to both people and property - something we cannot and will not compromise on.
"We understand how disappointing this news will be for our traders and visitors, especially after all the hard work and excitement leading up to the Market. However, we firmly believe this decision is in."
