'Whirlwind' few weeks for 'mystery couple' after engagement at Christmas event sparks social media search
A bride to be whose engagement sparked a social media frenzy has said it has been a "crazy" few weeks.
Vikki Buckby and her fiancé Kieron Francis-King got engaged at Coombe Abbey's Illuminate festive light trail at the start of December.
A photograph - taken by another guest at the popular event - was then shared on social media by Coombe Abbey as the hotel looked to track down the mystery couple to offer them something to celebrate the occasion.
The post had been shared numerous times and seen by thousands, before Vikki was 'tagged' in it at the end of last week.
"It's been a bit of a whirlwind, really," she told Nub News.
"At the start of December, my fiancé took me to Illuminate with my children, my sister and my sister-in-law.
"We were just walking down the trail and he had this beautiful box made with my new name-to-be on it.
"My daughter ran up with the box as he got down on one knee and proposed.
"We didn't really share anything on social media or anything, but now all this chaos has gone a little bit wild!
"They've been trying to find the mystery couple. My sister tagged me in it this morning and was like, 'hey Vic, look, they're looking for you!'"
Having now been together for nine years after meeting through a mutual friend, Vikki and Kieron, from Coventry, plan to marry in 2026.
She works at the new Edmonds Jewellers in the centre of Kenilworth where the team have made a "big fuss" following the news.
And Vikki said the engagement itself was a "massive surprise".
"My partner is the most unromantic person you would ever meet," she joked.
"He does not have a romantic bone in his body. I love him to pieces, but he really doesn't.
"The fact that he'd been talking to my sister for months about this, they've had secret meetings in private about the ring and picking the ring and the location, which he changed twice because he wasn't prepared for the first time, but then decided to do it here.
"So, yeah, he'd been very romantic and it was a massive surprise."
Coombe Abbey has now reached out to Vikki following the successful social media appeal.
She added: "I didn't know that my little engagement would be such a big excitement for everybody.
"The way that everyone had been putting it all over Facebook was just a bit of a shock!"
And following the engagement owner of Edmonds Jewellers Carl Edmonds said to Nub News: "We are absolutely delighted for Vikki.
"She is a much-loved member of our team in Kenilworth and we wish her and Kieron all the happiness in the world.
"And what a fantastic story with the 'mystery couple' being tracked down on Facebook - it really shows the positive side of social media."
