A short commemoration and remembrance service is set to be held at Kenilworth's war memorial to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day next month.

Led by Rev Eira Hale of St Nicholas Church, the short gathering will be held at 11am on Thursday 6 June.

Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Alan Chalmers will lay a wreathe, as will the Royal Warwickshire Regiment - who landed on D-Day - and the Royal British Legion.

"Everyone is very welcome to attend as individuals or organisations," organisers said.

"We would love to see as many people attend as possible.

"No additional wreaths are expected."

There will not be a parade for the service.

The morning's event will then be followed with an event at Kenilworth Castle in the evening.

From 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Kenilworth Town Council will be hosting a commemorative event featuring a ringing of local church bells, a performance by local school choirs, a piper and the lighting of a beacon in one of the castle's towers.
