Police are warning motorists that a section of the A46 near Stratford-upon-Avon has been closed due to smoke from a major fire in the area.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service (WRFS) has declared a major incident due to the fire at Tothall Lane, Salford Priors.

The A46 is shut between Arrow Services and Salford Bridge in both directions.

Multiple fire engines were called to the field fire at around 5pm today.

"There is a large emergency presence in the area and we continue to advise residents nearby to close all doors and windows," WFRS said.

"Please stay away from the area.

"Our control room is receiving a large number of calls, so please contact us only in a genuine emergency.

"It's imperative that residents take all steps to reduce any fire risk."
