Road closures and noise disruption are set to hit Coventry residents this weekend as the city's annual music festival returns.

Godiva Festival, pushed back this year for Radio 1's Big Weekend, is set to be held in War Memorial Park from Friday, September 2 to Sunday, September 4.

Organisers Coventry city council have now posted letters to people living near the park informing them of what to expect over the three days.

Noise from performances will last until 10.30pm on the Friday and Saturday nights.

And on Saturday a short firework display is planned from 10.20pm-10.30pm.

War Memorial car parks will be shut to non-festival goers for the event's duration, and some footpaths will be closed too – but there will still be pedestrian routes through the park.

The below roads will be closed from 4pm-midnight on Friday, 10am-midnight on Saturday and 10am-8.30pm on Sunday:

  • Leamington Road northbound between Daventry Road and Warwick Road.
  • Kenilworth Road north-eastbound and restricted right turn to Leamington Road.
  • Coat of Arms Bridge Road between Kenilworth Road and Stivichall Croft.
  • Stivichall Croft between Coat of Arms Bridge Road and Armorial Road.

What is Godiva festival?

It's a three-day music festival and celebration that's been held in the city since 1998, though it traces its origins to the Godiva Procession of 1678.

The event is known for being family-friendly and has a separate Family Field with a fairground, arcade, sports zone and craft demonstrations.

Formerly free, tickets were introduced in 2019 and the most expensive day pass this year costs £17.50 on the door.

The capacity is 40,000 and Godiva is believed to be the biggest family-friendly music festival in the UK.

This year's headliners are The Libertines on Friday, Tom Grennan on Saturday and Banarama on Sunday.
