Resurfacing work has been announced for the Thickthorn roundabout in Kenilworth.

Warwickshire County Council is applying surface dressing to over 50 miles of roads across the county and says the work will "significantly improves road surfaces"

In Kenilworth this will see works on the Thickthorn Roundabout on Leamington Road, currently scheduled for Sunday 11 August.

The council is also aiming to apply surface dressing on Red Lane in Burton Green on Wednesday 28 August.

The process involves spraying bitumen emulsion (a sticky tar-like substance) onto a prepared road surface.

Stone chippings are spread over the surface and rolled to allow the stones to embed into the bitumen.

The local authority says it has already completed works on Clinton Lane and Birmingham Road in Kenilworth.

Cllr Jan Matecki, portfolio holder for transport & planning, said: “Surface dressing is vital for maintaining our highways.

"It prevents potholes, improves skid resistance, and extends road life, preventing more costly repairs. Water is the main culprit for road deterioration, and surface dressing seals and waterproofs the road, helping to prevent damage.

“Respecting speed limits in these areas is crucial to keeping our roads safe and functional. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to keep Warwickshire's roads safe and reliable for everyone.”
