Remains of cannabis farm found dumped in hedgerow by police
Equipment from a cannabis farm has been found dumped in a hedgerow in a "fly-tipping hotspot" by police.
PCSO Sharron Underwood found the fly-tipping whilst out on patrol near Hunningham.
No evidence of where the equipment came from nor the owner was found.
Police said they will increase fly-tipping patrols in the area.
A Kenilworth and Warwick Police spokesperson said: "Whilst PCSO Sharron Underwood was out on patrol this afternoon a load of fly tipping was found in a hedgerow in Hunningham.
"The bags consisted of equipment and debris from a average sized cannabis cultivation.
"No trace of evidence was found of the person's details or address it had originated from unfortunately.
"Will be patrolling hotspot areas where there has been frequent fly tipping. This location in between Hunningham and Offchurch will be one of them."
A growing problem
Recently published data has shown a 12 per cent increase in fly-tipping across the county.
And Warwick District Council members have blamed the increase on the limited opening times at local recycling centres.
"Fly-tipping is increasing, there is no doubt about it," said Cllr Pam Redford.
"When are we going to get the county council to wake up to the fact that if you don't open the tips for long enough, people are going to just dump it on the verge?
"I have got lots of farmers who are just going up the wall because it is expanded to their fields, and we don't collect it from their fields so they are having to pay out.
"I can get really wound up about this one."
