Public toilets in Abbey Fields closed as water 'not fit for human consumption'
Public toilets in Abbey Fields were forced to close due to the water not being "fit for human consumption", a district council report has revealed.
At last month's Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) meeting an update on the progress on the new swimming pools revealed the issue, and said work from Severn Trent is needed to rectify it.
The update from Warwick District Council to KTC said: "There is currently a problem with the water supplies on site.
"The water is not currently fit for human consumption.
"This has made it necessary to close the temporary public toilets for the foreseeable future.
"The causes of the problem are being investigated with Severn Trent and Councillors will be updated on progress as soon as more is known.
"In the meantime, a temporary route for water provision from Bridge Street is being progressed.
"Until this is installed, site water for construction is being provided by bowser and water for consumption and hygiene by the team on site is being provided as bottled water."
Cllr Andrew Milton told members he had been in correspondence with the district council asking when a solution would be found.
No timeframe was given, with the district council saying it is dependent on Severn Trent.
Meanwhile Cllr Peter Jones commented: "It is strange they have closed the toilets due to a lack of drinking water."
Councillors also agreed to follow up with the district council about getting the children's play area fully accessible again.
Cllr Zoe Leventhal said: "The problem is, it is now the summer holidays and it is now absolutely critical that the playground is not only open but accessible. I have raised this in correspondence."
She said she would contact the district council to rectify the issue as a "matter of urgency".
The council's report also indicated the works at Abbey Fields are slightly ahead of schedule.
