Kenilworth firefighters were called to a car fire in Lapworth tonight (August 6) - at the same time another fire had been set in Abbey Fields.

Crews were called to Rising Lane at 5.33pm where firefighters from Henley-in-Arden were already tackling the blaze.

"Due to the remote location Henley requested a second crew for water and to help prevent the fire spreading into a nearby wheat field," a Kenilworth Fire Station statement said.

"The cause of the fire was believed to be an engine malfunction.

"Unfortunately at the same time another deliberate fire was started in Abbey Fields which Leamington had to respond to, leaving the Leamington and Warwick area with one less fire engine."
