Primary school retains good rating but Ofsted warns more thorough review will be needed
A Leek Wootton primary school has retained its good rating following its latest review by Ofsted.
But the national body said All Saints Church of England Academy will need a more thorough review soon as "evidence gathered suggests that the inspection grade might not be as high if a full inspection were carried out now".
The Warwick Road school, which received its good rating back in March 2015, had a routine inspection at the end of May.
The report published this month states that: "Pupils enjoy their time at All Saints Church of England Academy.
"They know that staff care for them and keep them safe.
"This is a friendly, welcoming school.
"Strong relationships between pupils and staff are built on courtesy and respect. This reflects the school's ethos."
In particular the report found that children behave well and enjoy a range of different clubs and extracurricular activities.
And staff, who were said to feel proud to work at the school, were commended for their approach to safeguarding.
But the report also found that the school was lacking in its reading teaching and its provision for SEND children.
"Most pupils listen well and enjoy their learning. Leaders have high expectations for all. However, pupils do not learn to read as well as they should," the report added.
"Leaders have not prioritised how reading is taught. Not all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), receive the support they need to do well in lessons across the curriculum."
The report did say that steps were being taken to improve the reading curriculum but added that nothing was yet in place.
School's Comments
Speaking to Nub News following the report being published, Michael Cowland the chief executive officer of The Diocese of Coventry Multi Academy Trust - of which All Saints is part - said he was proud of many of the findings.
"Our report recognises that leaders embody the school's vision of, 'working together to care for each other'.
"That staff care for them and keep them safe.
"This is a friendly, welcoming school. Strong relationships between pupils and staff are built on courtesy and respect."
He added: "We are always working on ways to improve and develop, too.
"The report identifies early reading (phonics) as an area to focus upon, which we would agree with and had already purchased a new scheme, which is due to be implemented in September.
"This being said we are proud of the fact that the (non-verified as yet) phonics results this year demonstrate good progress from the children's starting point and a very pleasing level of attainment, which will be seen when they are published soon.
"As always we welcome the support from everyone within our community and are pleased that the inspectors recognised that we were 'a wonderful school with dedicated teachers, who really care about the young people'."
