Councillors and local volunteers joined together to raise the pride flag outside Jubilee House yesterday to celebrate Pride Month.

The pride banner replaced the Ukrainian flag which had been in place since the end of February.

And Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Sam Louden-Cooke said she hoped the day would mark the start of closer ties with Warwickshire Pride - one of her two chosen mayoral charities.

"Hopefully we will help them branch out into Kenilworth," she said.

"Obviously they are based in Leamington, and doing things around the county, so it would be great to get them more involved in Kenilworth."

And Cllr Louden-Cooke said it was a cause close to her heart.

She added: "Personally I have battled with my identity and figuring out who I am, and I think we all are to an extent for most of our lives.

"But it would have been really useful for me to have some of the support mechanisms that Warwickshire Pride have in place, or to know that they there is a community out there that I could have reached out to.

"So I really want to use this year to promote that inclusivity."

Cllr Louden-Cooke has already started regular meetings with Warwickshire Pride and has also reached out to charity Ask For Clive.

The national organisation "partners with venues to promote inclusion and to create welcoming environments for the LGBT+ community".
